The Facilities, Engineering and Construction Division is responsible for maintaining Jekyll Island Authority facilities and grounds. It provides public services for island residents, including water and sewer, trash collection, and fire and emergency medical service. The division is also responsible for wildlife protection and maintaining the island natural dune and ecological systems.

The Division Director can provide information regarding JIA property regulations and ordinances. Island residents and businesses should contact the Director before planning any remodeling or new construction. He can advise them as to whether or not this is in line with JIA ordinances and if a building permit is needed from Glynn County.
Please Note: It is a violation of JIA ordinances and JIA residential leases to cut any vegetation, plants, or trees on Jekyll Island leased property unless authorized by the Jekyll Island Authority. Any Jekyll Island resident or business owner wanting to cut or trim vegetation, plants, or trees on their property must apply for a permit from the Jekyll Island Authority. All permit requests must be sent in writing to Cliff Gawron, Jekyll Island Authority, 381 Riverview Drive, Jekyll Island, GA 31527.
Facility Maintenance
Jim Taleb manages our Facility Maintenance Department. Employees in this department maintain all JIA public buildings and their mechanical systems, including heating and air, plumbing and electrical, carpentry, and painting.
Staff is on call Sunday through Saturday and can be reached by calling (912) 571-2647 or (912) 635-4114.
Flood Damage Prevention
Flood protection assistance is also available from this division. Ronny Smith can discuss protection measures for homes and commercial buildings.
Jekyll Island is a protected haven for an abundance of wildlife including deer, raccoons, squirrels, reptiles, waterfowl, turkeys, and many species of birds. For safety's sake, residents and guests are requested to refrain from feeding the wildlife. It is against state law to feed wild alligators. When driving, especially at night, please watch out for the deer.
Authority personnel experienced in wildlife handling will respond to complaints of alligators and other wildlife. Call 635-4092 for questions or complaints about wildlife. For wildlife emergencies in the evening and on weekends, call the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (262-3178) or the Jekyll post of the Georgia State Patrol (635-2303).
