| SPOTLIGHT: GOODYEAR COTTAGE |
The Jekyll Island Arts Association Exhibit for July presents an array of artists which will bring a sparkle to Goodyear Cottage in the Historic District, Jekyll Island, which will rival any fireworks celebration!
Ellen Moriarity is an Atlanta escapee landing on St. Simons Island in 1992. She loves foreign travel, sitting on a street corner near a local market, children watching, dogs lapping her brush water, sketching and splashing color...that is Heaven to her...just what she is meant to do. Her newest printed endeavor is the 2006 Fine Art Calendar featuring 12 original water colors uniquely designed, sold on the internet on her website as well as in local shops and galleries. In her words...”I FLIT...I don’t stay in one style, technique or media very long. Sometimes I even try to blend totally different techniques just to see what happens. Ideas are everywhere. Change spurs creativity for me-be it change of place or merely change of paint brushes to paint pencils! Art for me is FUN and I sincerely hope my work reflects that”.
Nancy Jacey currently resides in Tampa, Florida, where she teaches colored pencil and acrylic painting classes. Nancy is recognized for her Primacolor pencil illustrations. Her passion for art lies in realistically capturing the world in a vivid, colorful style and bringing it to life for her audience. She specializes in nature, marine, and portrait illustrations. Nancy’s illustrations have been exhibited extensively throughout Florida, Georgia, and Virginia. Her illustrations are featured in the 2005 Print Magazine European Design Annual, the Directory of Illustration #22 published by Serbin Communications and Black Book Raw Magazine. Nancy graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where she received her BFA in Studio Art and later studied at Savannah College of Art and Design where she earned her MFA in Illustration.
Cary and Barry Knapp from St. Simons Island are multi-talented artists. Cary has a BA in Art and a Masters of Bilingual Education and a Masters of Library Science. She has worked in libraries for many years in California, a Navy librarian in Iceland, an Air Force librarian in England, and currently is the Adult Services Librarian at the Brunswick-Glynn County Library. Although a librarian by profession, her first love is art and for the past decade she has been a decorative painter working primarily on wooden bowls. Barry has a degree in Art Education from Purdue University and has worked in the field for over 30 years. He has taught school in Indiana, California, and worked for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools in Iceland, England, Cuba and Germany. He currently teaches part-time at Job Corps in Brunswick. His craft runs the gamut from cartooning, pottery, glassblowing, photography and sculpture, to painting and drawing. Several of his creations have won awards in art festivals in the southeast and his pottery is in homes throughout the world.
