Our Mission is to serve as the first line of defense against fires and medical emergencies on Jekyll Island and its causeway.
Employees in the Fire Department/EMS are on call 24 hours a day for fire and medical emergencies. Jekyll residents and guests who need emergency assistance should call 911 or (912) 635-2555.
In addition, the Fire Department serves as a base of operations for the Jekyll Island Emergency Volunteers, a not-for-profit corporation, dedicated to providing help and equipment to the Fire Department. The Fire Department also provides free blood pressure checks at the Fire Station located at 200 Stable Road. For additional information about our Fire and EMS services call the business lines 912-635-2930 or 912-635-4035.
The department is equipped with 2 fire engines, 1 brush truck, an equipment truck, one ambulance, 2 ocean kayaks, one personal watercraft, and one military-type, all-terrain vehicle.
Residents and business owners of Jekyll pay approximately 50% of the cost to help support the department's activities by paying "fire fees." These fees are based on the assessed value of the property as determined by the Glynn County Tax Assessor's Office. For more information about fire fees, call the JIA's Accounts Receivable office at 635-4097.
