Turtle Tips

Lights Out
White lights from flashlights, beachside hotels and houses scare and confuse adults and hatchlings.  From May until October there is an ordinance prohibiting lights on the beach.

Enjoy From A Distance
If you see a turtle please stay back.  You may interfere with her natural nesting behavior.  Harassing a sea turtle violates federal and state laws.

Watch Where You Walk
Erosion caused by walking on the dunes destroys the dunes for next year's turtles.

Do Not Remove Wooden Stakes
These posts mark nests and allow researchers to monitor nest activity.

Do Not Leave Holes Or Large Sand Structures On The Beach
These may trap or deter turtles from nesting.

Pack Out What You Pack In
Turtles confuse deadly pollution, especially plastic bags for food.
